When you are urged to visit beautiful Washington, east or west, you will find everything you are looking for from the sea, mountains, and volcanos; we have four active Saint Helens. St. Helens blew her top in 1980. And people are still talking about it.
Flying to Western Washington?
You will land at SeaTac airport. Halfway between Seattle and Tacoma with a beautiful view of Mount Rainier.
But do you want to see Victoria? You Have to decide whether to go North to British Columbia or South just this side of the Columbia River for Victoria in Washington State.
Traveling to Eastern Washington
You can go through the Castaid mountains to Leavenworth. Leavenworth looks like a Swiss Village. There are several fabulous skiing areas you can visit. Of course, if you prefer to drive or take a bus, the trip through the Dalles along the Columbia River is a sight you will never forget.
Of course, you would want to go by ferry boat from Seattle to Bremerton and see the
Battleship Missouri, relax on the Ferryboat through the Sand Juan Islands, or take a memorable ferryboat trip to Vancouver, BC.
On the coast, you can fish in the ocean.
If you prefer, we have lakes and rivers. I understand they are great for fly fishing. And there is fabulous hiking in the Olimpic Mountains and the cascades.
Eastern Washington
can get hot. It is a desert. But it is hard to miss the sights if you are into Geology. Three miles of Volcanic lava buried that land a few million years ago.
It is the land that Lake Messusa flooded after an ice dam broke, creating the largest flood ever in North America. You can also see the Great Falls that the flood cascaded over. It was over four times the size of Niagra Falls, with an estimated water depth of 100 feet. It is dry now, but it must have been quite a sight.
Washington has a lot;
from fishing on the Pacific Ocean to hiking, camping, mountain climbing, deserts, ghost towns, many forest areas, and even a petrified forest. You can also find the Smallest State park in the United States on the Willmiet River, as well as the 5,223-foot (1,592-meter) long, or 57 feet short of a mile, Grand Coulee Dam, the largest concrete structure ever built in the U.S.
